窑洞之问

1945年7月，民主人士黄炎培在访问延安同毛泽东谈话时说到，希望将来中国共产党建立的政权能够跳出旧政权“其兴也浡焉”、“其亡也忽焉”的周期率。毛泽东说，我们已经找到新路，我们能跳出这周期率，这条新路就是民主；只有让人民来监督政府，政府才不敢松懈；只有人人起来负责，才不会人亡政息。

Question about Breaking the Cycle of Rise and Fall at a Cave Dwelling

In July 1945， China Democratic League founder Huang Yanpei visited Mao Zedong at his cave dwelling in Yan’an． When talking with Mao， Huang expressed the hope that the regime founded by the CPC would break the historical cycle of old regimes that “fell as abruptly and rapidly as they rose”． Mao replied， “We have found a new path to break free of the cycle， which is democracy． As long as the people can supervise the government， the government dare not slacken in its effort． As long as everyone takes up the responsibility， the nation will prosper forever．”
